The Tesla Model S Plaid is available for purchase and deliveries are underway.
On Thursday 10:15 PM PT, Tesla presented the electric car during the Plaid delivery event. This version of the Model S has 1,020 horsepower, a 390-mile range, and can reach 60 mph in less than two seconds.
This is after Elon Musk announced last week that Tesla will not offer the Model S Plaid Plus because “Plaid is just so good.”
What’s different about the Model S Plaid, according to Yahoo!, is its tri-motor all-wheel drive platform with torque vectoring. This gives the car the ability to increase speed in such little time. Although Tesla said the Model S Plaid can go 200 mph, it can only reach that speed “when equipped with the proper wheels and tires.” The wheels and tires that are needed in order to go 200 mph will be available in the fall. Another thing is that you can add 200 miles to the car in 15 minutes while hooked up to a super charger. The car also has a sportier shape and a “Plaid” badge below the right break light.
The Model S Plaid also has a new beautiful interior. The inside includes two giant screens in the front: one for the driver’s seat and the other for infotainment which has PS5 level performance with 60 frames per second. Musk emphasized this during the delivery event:
“There’s never been a car that has state of the art computing technology, state of the art infotainment where this is literally at the level of a PlayStation 5,” and that, “If you think about the future of where the car is often in autopilot or full self-driving mode, then entertainment is going to become increasingly important,”
This screen will allow passengers to play video games, such as Cyberpunk 2077, and watch movies and shows while not on the road. During the event, there was a brief demo of Cyberpunk 2077 being played on the infotainment screen. One of the people that was demonstrating had a Tesla gaming controller that matches the steering wheel. According to The Verge, it is not clear whether the controllers were real or not. Some viewers were able to spot an Xbox controller on the dashboard.
The interior also has a new yolk-style steering wheel that allows drivers a better view of the screen in front. The new wheel does not have any control stalks so you will have to use the infotainment screen in order to shift gears.
The Tesla Model S Plaid is available for $131,000, which is more than it was for those who preordered the car before Thursday. Those who preordered get to pay the original amount.
