The Fremont assembly plant is now back in business in defiance of Alameda county social distancing regulations. CBS News points out that this came after a lawsuit filed by Elon Musk against the county for opening said factory. He stated in a tweet that if anyone were to be arrested, it would be him.
Tesla is restarting production today against Alameda County rules. I will be on the line with everyone else. If anyone is arrested, I ask that it only be me.

But in an act to try and clear up the whole situation, Electrek reported that the county was in contact with the CEO and even made plans to open up the plant on May 18th. Elon Musk could not wait and decided to open up the factory anyway. Musk explained that his reasoning for opening up earlier than agreed to was that other automakers were able to open up in other states and that they can reopen safely like they have recently in the Shanghai Gigafactory.
Elon Musk went as far as making an ultimatum and claimed that California officials approved, but one official, who is unelected, overrode the approval.
Frankly, this is the final straw. Tesla will now move its HQ and future programs to Texas/Nevada immediately. If we even retain Fremont manufacturing activity at all, it will be dependen on how Tesla is treated in the future. Tesla is the last carmaker left in CA.

According to CBS News, Alameda county wrote to Tesla yesterday and told them that Tesla opened “beyond Minimum Basic Operations” and that Tesla should maintain these measures until other agreements are reached.
Will Elon Musk be arrested? Probably not. He will most likely be fined. If he actually thought he would have been arrested, I do not think he would have done it. Especially after having a child. But I will say that a mugshot of Elon Musk would definitely be a hot topic and create a fair share of memes.
