As of Wednesday, Electrek was given a first look at Tesla’s new battery cell and it’s not even “Battery Day” yet.

Pictures were sent incognito style to Electrek along with claims that they were the new battery cells Tesla has made as a result of their Roadrunner project. The Roadrunner project is a secret project Tesla has launched as a manufacturing system to increase production which will help Tesla reduce costs.

Back in February, Electrek was able to find out what Tesla’s plan is for these battery cells. The batteries are being made at their “Tera battery manufacturing facility” on Kato Road right next to their factory in Fermont. The goal is to break the $100 kWh price, which is said to be the ‘holy grail’ of electric vehicles. This is important because by reducing the cost to $100 kWh will reduce the cost of Tesla models and make them as affordable as gas vehicles and change the automotive industry as we know it.

According to Electrek, the battery is twice as big in diameter as the cells being used in Tesla Model 3, which is four times the volume of the cell.

For those who don’t know, battery day is this Tuesday at 1:30 pm Pacific Time. Elon Musk will give the presentation and he will show off the new battery technology Tesla has made.

“Battery Day” is going to be live-streamed via Twitter, Tesla’s website, and on YouTube. There has been a lot of speculation on what Elon Musk is going to unveil. One of which is the “million-mile pack.” This pack, according to Newsweek, is a power source that can last for years and allow faster charging at a low cost.

I can’t wait to see what will be presented this Tuesday. Whether it is the new battery cell and or the “million-mile pack” that is going to be presented on Tuesday, it will be one step closer for electric vehicles becoming more affordable for everyone.
